NEW DELHI: Patna Police on Monday stopped the ‘Gandhi se Ambedkar’ march, marking the culmination of Congress ongoing ‘ Vote Adhikar Yatra ’ midway in city.
The procession, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi , began from Gandhi Maidan but was halted at Dak Bungalow Crossing, which police cited as a restricted area.
Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma said the march could not be allowed beyond the crossing, though INDIA bloc leaders would be permitted to address the public there. He added that a delegation may be allowed to pay floral tributes at the BR Ambedkar statue near Patna High Court.
The rally saw participation from several opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge , Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML) Liberation’s Dipankar Bhattacharya and TMC MP Yusuf Pathan.
Leaders waved to cheering crowds from an open-top vehicle as supporters showered petals and raised slogans of “Rahul Gandhi Zindabad.”
The ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’, launched on August 17 from Sasaram, traversed 110 assembly constituencies across 25 districts. Congress has claimed it highlights the alleged assault on voting rights through the ongoing revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
In a post on X in hindi the party said, “This revolution that arose from Bihar is moving forward across the entire country. It will not stop now—it will continue until the vote thieves are removed from power."
