Morocco's Achraf Hakimi wins African player of the year award in Ligue 1

Achraf Hakimi , a player who defends at Paris Saint-Germain , has been named the best African player in Ligue 1 , in the 2024-2025 season, in France. The Moroccan international managed to defeat the frontman of Nice, Evann Gruessand, from Ivory Coast, and the Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra from Senegal for the Marc-Vivien Foe Prize on Monday.

The 26-year-old football player was glad to win the prize. This is the first time in the history of the club that a player of PSG has received such a high award.
Hakimi Shines with an award after a stellar season for PSGHakimi got 364 votes in the voting, whereby he was 196 votes ahead of Guessand in second place. The award is for his good performances in the season, where he has played a major role in seeing PSG win their record-breaking 13th league title.



”It is something that I can be proud of that I am one of the great players who won this prize,” Said Hakimi after winning the prize. It is a reward for the type of season I am having and for that which PSG is having.
Hakimi is the 4th Moroccan to be honoredHakimi is the fourth Marc-Vivien Foe Award winner among the North Africans, Marouane Chamakh in 2009, Younès Belhanda in 2012, and Sofiane Boufal in 2016. As is, he is also the second defender to be honored with this title after the Congolese player Chancel Mbemba in 20283.



The award is given in the name of Cameroonian footballer Marc-Vivien Foe, who unfortunately died in 2003 in the Confederations Cup match, which he played against his country in France.
Hakimi is on the way to achieving a historic treble with PSGHakimi’s marvelous season is far from being over. The right-back scored an important goal in PSG’s semi-final against Arsenal in the Champions League as they won by 2-1 to qualify for the finals and face Inter Milan on 31st May.

Before that, PSG will have a game against Reims in the French Cup final on the 24th of May. If they were to win both finals, PSG would win the treble for the first time. At the end of this year, Hakimi will also feature in the Club World Cup in the United States.

Widely considered to be one of the world’s best right-backs, Hakimi has also made a mark of himself for his speed, precision, and attacking flair when needed. Radio France Internationale said he was an “exceptional athlete who combines speed, precision, and efficiency down the flank”.

The Atlas Lions star has also made history after being a member of the Moroccan team that also became the first African squad that qualify for the semi-finals of a World Cup in 2022, thus sealing his position as the greatest footballer in Africa.
