RB Leipzig reportedly want Manchester United to make a formal offer for Benjamin Sesko so they can create a bidding war. The German club reportedly rejected a £70million offer from Newcastle in exchange for the Slovenia international on Saturday.

Sesko was on Arsenal's radar before the Gunners landed Viktor Gyokeres last month. But the 22-year-old still looks likely to secure a transfer to the Premier League this summer, with the Red Devils and Newcastle both hungry to snap him up. United are in need of a new frontman after struggling in the final third in recent years, while Newcastle are chasing a striker after Alexander Isak told the Magpies he wants to explore a move away from St James' Park.

According to talkSPORT, Leipzig are hoping and waiting for Manchester United to bid for Sesko to create competitive tension.

The 13-time Premier League champions are yet to submit an official bid but remain in the race to sign the striker after holding talks with Leipzig and the player himself.

Before Newcastle's bid, there were concerns at Leipzig that Sesko was holding out for a move to Old Trafford. But the former Red Bull Salzburg man hasn't indicated which of the two clubs he would prefer to join.

The report has stated that Newcastle presented a bid worth £65.5million plus £4m in add-ons for Sesko.

But Leipzig rejected the offer as they deemed the overall package to be unacceptable in terms of the total fee and the structure of the deal.

And the Bundesliga club are not yet dropping their demands from when Arsenal were pursuing the ace.

Sesko joined Leipzig from Salzburg two summers ago and has gone on to net 27 goals in 64 Bundesliga appearances.

He has also found the back of the net six times during 16 Champions League appearances for the club and bagged a brace in the competition against Juventus last season.

The star, who has also racked up 16 goals in 41 appearances for his country, was left out of the Leipzig squad for their pre-season friendly against Atalanta on Saturday as his team suffered a 2-1 loss to the Serie A outfit.

And after that match, RB Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schafer was asked about the player's absence as he explained: "We won't go into detail on that but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it's obvious what has happened."
