Renowned Hollywood actor Denzel Washington delivers yet another 'first rate performance' in a mystery thriller airing on television tonight. The action flick has been branded a '10 out of 10' movie by fans, who admit they can 'watch it on repeat'.
The Equalizer, which was first released back in 2014, sees Washington star as Robert McCall opposite popular actress Chloë Grace Moretz, who plays teenager Teri.
Tonight, UK viewers will have the opportunity to watch the film for free, as it is airing on Channel 4 at 9pm with a runtime of 132 minutes.
The synopsis for the film reads: "Robert McCall, a man of mysterious origin who believes he has put the past behind him, dedicates himself to creating a quiet new life.
"However, when he meets Teri, a teenager who has been manhandled by violent Russian mobsters, he simply cannot walk away.
"With his set of formidable skills, McCall comes out of self-imposed retirement and emerges as an avenging angel, ready to take down anyone who brutalizes the helpless."
The movie has a modest 61% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a higher audience score of 77%.
Despite this, many action movie fans have admitted that The Equalizer is an 'all-time favourite' that they could watch 'on repeat'.
Taking to the comments on Rotten Tomatoes, movie fans have shared hundreds of positive reviews.
One wrote: "One of my favorite movies of all time. From the hero to the victim to the villain, everything was perfect."
Another agreed: "One of my favorite action movies, great action, good villain and I love Denzel's acting, one of his best roles."
A third chimed in: "I love watching this film every few years! It's a classic. Denzel Washington puts on a first rate performance."
Yet another commented: "Amazing movie. Ten out of ten. Could watch on repeat and would never get bored."
However, not everyone liked the film, with one person critiquing: "Only two stars purely because of Denzel Washington and Chloë Grace Moretz. The story could be stronger and less predictable."
Entertainment Weekly described the film as "one long and loathsome bore of a movie", while Variety wrote: "Ponderously overlong and not even half as much fun as it should have been..."
Nevertheless, the film also received plenty of positive reviews from critics, with The New York Post writing: "Washington is a master at putting his own inimitable and stylish spin on even the most familiar situations."
The Hollywood Reporter also issued high praise, adding: "The most exciting, violent and stylish film of its type in a very long while."
The Equalizer is airing on Channel 4 tonight, October 25, at 9pm.
