Noni Madueke has opened up on his decision to leave Chelsea and join Arsenal with the aim of helping the north Londoners to win trophies. The move was officially announced on Friday with the 23-year-old penning a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have agreed to pay up to £52million in exchange for the winger, who becomes their fourth signing of the summer.
Madueke flew back to England last week to complete the formalities of the switch, having been with Chelsea for the Club World Cup. He will be hoping to make a fresh start in his new surroundings and is determined to help Arsenal end their five-year trophy drought. They have failed to claim a major honour since winning the FA Cup at the end of Mikel Arteta's first season in charge.
Quizzed on what he wanted to achieve as an Arsenal player, Madueke told the club website: "To win all the competitions we're in. I feel like we're definitely capable of doing that."
The forward also spoke about why he decided to leave Chelsea and return to north London, having been born and raised in nearby Barnet.
"I'm somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it's steered me in the right direction so far," he said. "So, I don't think it's going to be any different here. I think it's going to be a great success and I'm really happy to be here.
"I've just been relaxed, waiting for the green light and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me. It's great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad. I know my mum misses me in the house.

"It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step."
The news of Arsenal's interest in Madueke was met with hostility in some quarters, with thousands of fans opposed to the switch. A petition titled #NOTOMADUEKE gained over 5,000 signatures before the move was officially confirmed.
Rio Ferdinand recently launched a scathing attack on those who signed the petition, urging Arsenal fans to lay off Madueke in a furious social media post.
"I just hope the people that are closest to him are around him and supporting him in the way that he needs right now," wrote Ferdinand.
"It's fine for fans to disagree with signings or decisions made at their football club, but the way some fans have publicly voiced their opinions and those who have gone a step further in publicly joining a petition for this player not to be signed by their football club is beyond me.
"Like I said earlier, just imagine if this was your best friend, one of your family members, your brother, son, then tell me how would you feel if they were on the receiving end of this vulgar behaviour?
"By the way, this isn't aimed at all Arsenal fans, it's just a small section who have become very loud unfortunately. I just hope the transfer goes through and Noni Madueke rams all of this negativity back down the throats of these impostors."
