Ukrainian special forces carried out a daring attack on a Russian military column deep behind enemy lines. The covert operation took place in the occupied city of Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine.
The strategic city has been under Russian occupation since the early weeks of the full-scale invasion. It serves as an important logistical hub for Vladimir Putin's forces, linking the occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions and providing a supply corridor towards Crimea. The city, which had a pre-war population of around 150,000 people, has regularly been a target of Ukrainian resistance operations.
In the latest incident, Ukrainian security forces teamed up with partisan fighters to ambush a Russian military column as it rolled into an industrial deployment zone.
An explosion ripped through the area, killing at least six Russian marines patrolling the area. The attack wiped out the crew of a drone team from the so-called Akhmad battalion - a Chechen unit fighting for Putin's army.
A hidden ammunition depot was also struck, triggering powerful secondary detonations that echoed across the city.
Video images show the moment the attack unfolded, taking the Russians by surprise. A military truck can be seen driving away moments before a large explosion shakes the industrial zone, sending a plume of smoke skywards.
Ukraine's Defence Intelligence (HUR) said the attack disrupted Russian logistics in the Zaporizhzhia sector and confirmed the Russians sustained both personnel and equipment losses.
The operation is the latest in a series of attacks carried out by operatives from Ukraine's HUR. Earlier in August, Ukrainian intelligence reported a large-scale special operation near Sumy that resulted in heavy casualties for the Russians.
Ukraine's Tymur unit and supporting formations killed over 330 Russian troops and wounded more than 550, disrupting enemy logistics and halting their advance.
Tymur Special Unit fighters infiltrated deep behind enemy lines, dismantling Russian positions and severing their supply chains for food and ammunition.
