Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered for a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Odisha’s Nuapada Assembly Constituency due to an upcoming bye-election
The revision will be conducted under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 with July 1, 2025, as the qualifying date, the press note from the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha, said.
The schedule of the SSR is as follows:
>> Re-arrangement and modification of polling stations to be completed by September 14.
>> Integrated draft electoral roll to be released on September 15.
>> Filing window for claims and objections from September 15–29.
>> All claims and objections to be settled by October 7.
>> Publication of final roll scheduled for October 9.
The ECI conducts Special Summary Revision during the month of October-November every year. During this exercise, house-to-house verification is conducted by the Booth Level Officers (BLO) for identification of un-enrolled eligible electors, identification of discrepancies, removal of multiple/shifted/dead electors, standardisation of addresses and rationalisation and modification of polling stations.
Notably, the bye-election in Nuapada was necessitated following the recent demise of sitting BJD legislator Rajendra Dholakia, and is poised to witness a triangular contest, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and the Congress preparing for a fierce showdown.
The Congress is banking on Ghasiram Majhi, who in 2024 Assembly polls contested as an independent and finished second behind Dholakia with 50,941 votes. The winning margin was 10,881.
