Asia Cup Trophy Controversy: BCCI Warns of Action if Trophy Not Returned Soon, Mohsin Naqvi May Face Consequences

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is growing increasingly frustrated as the 2025 Asia Cup trophy has still not reached its headquarters in Mumbai, more than a month after India’s victory in Dubai. According to reports, the glittering trophy is yet to be handed over to the Indian board, and the matter has now taken a serious turn. The BCCI expects the trophy to arrive within a day or two, but if it doesn’t, the issue could escalate, with strong action likely to be taken against the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Mohsin Naqvi.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has stated that the board will not remain silent if the situation continues. He confirmed that if the trophy is not returned soon, the BCCI will raise the issue at the upcoming ICC meeting in Dubai on November 4. Saikia expressed disappointment, saying, “We are unhappy that even after more than a month, the Asia Cup trophy has not been presented to us. We wrote to the ACC President about 10 days ago, but there has been no progress. He still holds the trophy, but we expect it to reach our Mumbai office within the next couple of days.”

The controversy began after India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final in Dubai. However, due to the tense relations between the two countries, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav reportedly refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who then took it and left the venue. Since then, the trophy’s whereabouts have been unclear, fueling speculation and criticism.

Saikia added that if the trophy is not returned soon, the BCCI will bring the matter to the ICC’s attention. “We are fully prepared to take this up at the international level. I can assure the people of India that the trophy will return home — it’s only a matter of time,” he said.
