The story follows Enzo being adopted as a pup by wannabe Formula One racer Denny (Milo), with the pooch witnessing his owner's professional triumphs and setbacks.
As Denny starts romancing Eve (Amanda), Enzo initially objects, becoming envious of their relationship but the trio soon form a family unit, with Amanda and Denny having a baby after tying the knot.
Yet their perfect domestic life with Denny travelling for races gets shattered when Eve receives a brain cancer diagnosis, dying before Enzo's eyes.
As custody battles emerge over his daughter, with Eve's parents fighting Denny's career focus, the family Enzo cherished falls apart, reports the Express.
Similar to Marley and Me, the closing moments show Enzo's condition worsening and Denny accepting his beloved companion's death.
All along, Enzo had dreamt of returning and being reborn as a person, and the movie's ending reveals Denny eight years on, now a triumphant Formula One driver based in Italy with his daughter when he encounters a young admirer called Enzo.

The touching film left viewers emotionally overwhelmed, with one penning: "The Art of Racing in the Rain is a breathtaking cinematic masterpiece that seamlessly weaves together the heartwarming bond between a man and his loyal four-legged companion.
"This mesmerizing film transcends the boundaries of conventional storytelling, taking audiences on an emotional rollercoaster ride that will leave them forever changed."
Another commented: "I've never given a movie a 10/10* rating before, and I've seen quite a few, including all the big name blockbusters and the niche cinephile classics, and I've seen many 9/10 movies, very few have made me struggle with the decision to call it a perfect movie, this one is the exception, I knew within 10 minutes."
Someone else posted: "Absolutely loved the movie. It's a must watch."
A fourth remarked: "I absolutely loved this movie. It's the best movie I've seen in a long time. I loved the music, the cast, Kevin Costner narrating the movie absolutely everything about it. I wouldn't change a thing."

Another contributed: "What a movie! It was a true rollercoaster of emotions-happy, sad, funny, and deeply emotional. It can definitely make you cry."
Milo had earlier disclosed that despite sharing top billing in the picture with Kevin as Enzo, the duo never actually collaborated on set.
"What a lovely co-star that I never got to work with," he disclosed to ABC, comparing the production experience to actual life.
"It's much like, no one is hearing what their dog is actually thinking. There's no talking dogs in this. It's all the inner monologue of this dog as he's talking to himself."
The Art of Racing in the Rain can be streamed on Netflix.
