Former Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katonastruggled to hold back the tears as the popstar shared a heartbreaking insight into her childhood and her relationships with her parents.

Kerry opened up on some of the issues she faced during childhood and the reality of never developing a relationshipwith her biological dad.

The 44-year-old would only meet her biological dad one, when she was just six weeks old. Kerry revealed that she was seven-years-old when her mum Sue broke the news to her that she was the product of an affair.

Kerry became tearful on Paul C. Brunson's We Need to Talk podcast as she said that while she keeps a close relationship with her mum, she'll always "struggle" with the fact she kept the popstar apart from her dad.

She said: "She was best my mate (her mum), but the one thing I’ll struggle with is the fact that she would not let me go to meet my dad."

Despite never developing a relationship with her dad, Kerry relished the opportunity to connect with her long lost half-siblings.

Describing the first time that she clapped eyes on them, she revealed that it was a bittersweet moment after they said that they would have “welcomed” her years before, had they met earlier.

Earlier in the podcast, she had explained that the only time that she had ever met her dad was when she was six-weeks-old. Kerry said: "He came to see me when I was six-weeks-old and he held me with his brother, Gary.

"He put silver in my hand or something and then said to my mum 'I love you'. And she went don't stand there and tell me you love me, when you're going to go home to your wife."

Kerry shot to fame in the early 2000s as she became one of the founding members of the girl-group, Atomic Kitten.

In the years that followed, the band consisting of Kerry, Liz McClarnon and Heidi Range saw significant chart success with ‘Whole Again’, that stayed at the top of the UK charts for four consecutive weeks in 2000.

After leaving the band four weeks before ‘Whole Again’ was released, Kerry has remained in the public eye ever since.

Over the years she has been a familiar face on some of the most popular reality TV shows including the likes of I’m A Celeb, Celebrity Big Brother and Dancing on Ice.

Kerry herself has been married three times - to Westlife star Bryan McFadden from 2002 to 2004, to taxi driver Mark Croft from 2007 to 2011 and to rugby league star George Kay from 2014 to 2017. She has five children across the three marriages.
