Fans have been treated to dramatic episodes on EastEnders this week, as the BBC soap prepared for the official return of Zoe Slater. While the explosive reunion between Zoe and her mum, Kat Moon, was aired last night (2 September), many fans have been left wondering if the show will address a massive plot point from eight years ago – one that could dramatically change Zoe and Kat's relationship.
Zoe first returned in a three-episode stint earlier this year. Troubled by a dark secret that has yet to be revealed, she shared tense reunions with Stacey Slater and Alfie Moon but narrowly avoided coming face to face with mum Kat.
Kat and Zoe have been at the centre of many iconic EastEnders storylines, including their infamous showdown outside the Vic when Zoe finally learnt that Kat is her mother.

Her permanent return began when her half-brother, Tommy, tracked her down and brought her back to Walford for the first time in 20 years. Fans were then treated to some jaw-dropping dramatic scenes between Zoe and Kat, ultimately resulting into a major row outside the Vic, just as events with Jack Branning and Ravi Gulati led to a shocking shooting nearby.
Questions about what secret Zoe is hiding and who has been shot still hang in the air. But many are wondering if EastEnders will finally address Zoe's secret twin brother.
In 2015, Kat was as surprised as viewers to learn that she had given birth to twins when she was a teenager. A few months after visiting the nunnery where she gave birth, she was told by Sister Ruth that not only had Zoe been born all those years ago, but so had a baby boy.
After finding out the truth, a furious Kat argued with Mo Harris, who knew about the boy, and dad Charlie, who didn't. Amid the arguing, Charlie had a heart attack and died. A grieving Kat then went to Ireland to find Luke, her long-lost son, and this was the premise for a spin-off show, Kat And Alfie: Redwater.
The reunion between Kat and Luke was even more dramatic than recent scenes with Zoe, as Kat soon learned that her son, now called Dermott, was a murderous priest.
Redwater ended on a cliffhanger, with viewers unsure if Kat had drowned after heading out to sea with her son. But when the character returned to the main show in 2018 there was no mention of her killer son or what happened in Ireland. While it's been a hot topic among fans, EastEnders has swept the storyline under the rug.
Now that his twin sister has returned, many want to know if the Luke/Dermott storyline will finally resurface, especially since it played a part in the death of Charlie Slater.

Executive producer Ben Wadey has confirmed Zoe's time away from Walford. "Since Zoe left, we know their relationship deteriorated until Zoe cut ties completely," he said. "I've always been fascinated as to why, especially as they left on good terms. We have twenty years of history to explore, and so much has happened to both of them since they were last on screen together."
Those 20 years of history could include the events of Redwater, but fans will have to wait and see if they are ever brought up. In the past week, as Zoe's return got underway, BBC bosses dropped the early release of episodes on iPlayer to save the twists surrounding the storyline as her secrets come to light from being spoilt.
There are many fan theories around what those secrets could be, including a marriage to Max Branning and mothering current villain, Joel Marshall. Fans have also speculated about who may have been shot in last night's episode and some have heartbreakingly guessed the head of the Slater family, Mo, is the victim.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
