John Torode has remained silent on the news of MasterChef co-host Gregg Wallace, who was recently fired from his role on the cooking programme. Gregg was sacked after 50 more people complained aboutthe TV star – but recently vowed to fight back as he said in a statement that he "would not go quietly".

The 60-year-old presenter accused BBC News of “peddling gossip” after a report from the broadcaster claimed to have received dozens of new complaints about him, ranging from sexual comments to groping - all of which he denies. He admitted his humour was "inappropriate" on the programme but went on to slam the organisation.

Last year, when it was revealed Gregg stepped away from his MasterChef duties, his co-host remained mostly silent on the matter. He later came out to say it was "awful to hear" some people had negative experiences on the show.

He said at the time: "The thought of anyone who has appeared on our show not having a brilliant experience is awful to hear. Since last Friday I have been away filming MasterChef overseas. I love my job, and I love MasterChef. I love being part of it and will continue to be part of it.

"During the last few days, I’ve been trying to make the best cookery programme, so being busy making the show and caring for our contestants has allowed me little time to think about anything else, but that has been hard."

He added: “But as I hope everyone appreciates there is an investigation underway, which I fully support, so I cannot make any further comment at this stage and I hope that you all understand and respect my silence on the matter moving forward.”

Months later, after it was announced Gregg was fired from the show, John steered clear of mentioning the star as he took to his Instagram Stories to re-post a cooking video from Seaham Food Festival.

In the video, John was seen cooking some steaks with with wife Lisa Faulkner. They captioned the post: "Tuning into season 10 of @johnandlisaskitchenandhome? Don't miss the chance to see @johntorodecooks on our cookery stage on Sunday 3 August."

John previously discussed his relationship with Gregg during an interview with The Mirror in 2017 where he revealed the two weren't friends.

The duo had presented the hugely popular BBC1 programme together since 2005, but don't have a friendship outside of word. He said: "We’ve never been friends.

"It’s funny, we’ve never been friends. We’ve not been to each other’s houses… He’s so OCD, he wouldn’t know what to do. He’d build it up in his mind for three days, and probably make himself quite sick, then he’d have an argument with his wife and not turn up. If I went to his house, he would feel like he wasn’t in control."
