Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With the onset of the monsoon season, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has fully activated its disaster management system to address the risk of urban flooding and announced plans to deploy disaster management teams, which will remain active throughout the monsoon, including during nighttime hours, across all zones.
Under the directives of municipal commissioner Shivam Verma, over 112 locations prone to waterlogging have been identified, with comprehensive preparations put in place to ensure swift response and relief.
An orientation session was held at the City Bus Office auditorium in the presence of Verma, where all disaster management team members were briefed about their roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
Additional commissioners Abhay Rajangawkar, Manoj Pathak, deputy commissioner Shailesh Awasthi, superintendent engineer DR Lodhi, workshop incharge Manish Pandey and the entire disaster management team were also present.
Verma announced the formation of a dedicated disaster management team, which will remain active throughout the monsoon season, including during nighttime hours. The team comprises experienced staff from the public works, drainage, workshop, and electricity departments. To enhance their preparedness, members received special training through an orientation presentation.

These monitors will track waterlogging situations during the night and promptly alert the response team, ensuring swift action to minimise inconvenience to residents.
Coordinated response for drainage and traffic management
In case of waterlogging, the IMC team will not only work on water drainage but also take immediate steps to keep traffic moving safely. Ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians by maintaining smooth traffic flow during heavy rains will be a top priority for the team.
Fully equipped teams for emergency response
Verma has instructed that the disaster management team be fully equipped with raincoats, reflector jackets, torches, pumping machines, ropes, digging tools, spades, crowbars, hammers, and other essential equipment. All staff have been directed to maintain full alertness throughout the monsoon season and to respond immediately on receiving reports of waterlogging to carry out necessary relief work without delay.
