Late actress Pratyusha Banerjee and ‘Maryada’ star Kamya Panjabi were once very good friends. The two, who once participated in Bigg Boss, developed a very close friendship. After Banerjee died in 2016, Panjabi paid homage to her late friend through a short film. However, in a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, the ‘Balika Vadhu’ star’s ex-boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh stated that all was not well between the two actresses and the two fell out.
Singh claimed that the two actresses were no longer on speaking terms when Banerjee tried to make a move on Panjabi's then boyfriend, Karan Patel. “Allegedly, they were no longer friends because Pratyusha had tried to ‘steal’ Karan from her, which was even reported in a major publication. You can Google it,” he said.
Calling Panjabi a “fake old person,” Singh alleged that she tried to gain publicity from Pratyusha’s death through the movie Hum Kuch Keh Na Sake, which prompted him to file a defamation case against her. He also claimed that the ‘ Banoo Main Teri Dulhan’ actress encouraged Pratyusha in her alcohol addiction, which had an impact on her mental health. He had expressed worry about her drinking habits, and she gradually stopped attending parties. "That’s why I became a villain for them. They thought I was taking away Pratyusha from them. Kamya used to party a lot, everyone knows," he told Bollywood Bubble.
Rahul also stated that Kamya had borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh from Pratyusha and did not return the amount.
In 2017, Kamya accused Rahul of having orchestrated Pratyusha’s death.
Banerjee was discovered dead in her Mumbai residence on April 1, 2016, at just 24 years old. The autopsy confirmed that her passing was due to asphyxiation by hanging. Despite this, her parents firmly maintain she was murdered and framed to make it appear like suicide. Authorities registered a case against Rahul for allegedly encouraging her to take her own life. However, on July 2 of that same year, the Bombay High Court provided him relief by granting anticipatory bail, sparing him from immediate arrest.
In 2018, Rahul filed a plea in the Dindoshi sessions court, seeking his discharge from the case. He blamed Banerjee’s parents, alleging their financial burden on her pushed her over the edge.
In the years that followed, Singh attempted to move forward. He tied the knot with Saloni Sharma in 2018, and together they celebrated the birth of their daughter in 2023.
