Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to strengthen economic exchanges and strategic partnership in all areas, terming it as the key to sovereignty and independence, during a telephonic conversation on Thursday.
In a post on X, Macron said, the two leaders also coordinated their positions on the Russia-Ukraine war to move towards a just and lasting peace, with strong guarantees for Ukraine and Europe’s security.
The French leader also revealed that the two countries will closely work together for France to prepare for the G7 presidency and India for its BRICS presidency in 2026.
Earlier, Modi had said that he had a 'very good' conversation with Macron where efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia were discussed. The prime minister also said that the two countries will strengthen strategic partnership.
This comes amid a tricky situation with the US following President Donald Trump doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50 per cent. Further, the US has also applied a 15 per cent tariff on good exported from the European Union, which includes France.
