Flash flood has been reported in the Bhalesa area of Doda in Jammu on Tuesday. The authorities have not reported any casualties so far, as they continue to monitor the situation. The Chenab river crossed the danger mark in Ramban district. The authorities evacuated low-lying areas.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh spoke to the DC of the Doda region, Harvinder Singh.
"According to him, a flash flood has been reported in the Charwa area of Bhalesa. So far, no casualty linked to this flash flood has been reported," Singh said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah will travel to Jammu to personally monitor the developing situation of incessant rains. The state government will issue additional funds to DCs for disaster relief measures and emergency restoration work.
"The situation is many parts of Jammu province is quite serious. I’ll be taking the next available flight from Srinagar to Jammu to personally monitor the developing situation," he said.
"In the mean time, instructions have been issued to place additional funds at the disposal of the DCs to cover emergency restoration work and other exigences," he added.
On Tuesday morning, Divisional Commissioner Jammu issued an advisory for Basantar, Tawi, and Chenab rivers. "In light of medium to heavy rainfall forecasted in Jammu Division for next 40 hrs, water levels of River Basantar, Tawi, & Chenab are currently at 'Alert Level'," the advisory read.
The authority advised residents & visitor to stay away from riverbanks & flood-prone areas as a precautionary measure.
The District Magistrate (DM) of Jammu has issued emergency contact numbers for the citizens.
