Andhra Pradesh’s IT Minister, Nara Lokesh, on announced that schools across the state will enjoy extended holidays for the Dussehra festival, following requests from teachers.
The decision was taken after discussions with the state’s education department, ensuring that students, teachers, and families can fully take part in one of India’s most vibrant and culturally important festivals.
Sharing the update on social media, Nara Lokesh wrote, “TDP Graduate MLCs have brought to my attention that teachers are requesting Dussehra holidays for schools starting from the 22nd of this month. Following their request, we have discussed with the education department officials and made a decision. It has been decided to grant Dussehra festival holidays from the 22nd of this month until 2 October.”
The announcement gives students and staff a well-earned break before the festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Andhra Pradesh and across the country.
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, symbolises the victory of good over evil. It is marked with rituals, colourful processions, and family gatherings.
By granting the extended holiday, the government aims to allow teachers to take part in the festivities while giving students the chance to spend more time with their families.
