The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is slated to begin on May 17, following a week-long suspension due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. Now, according to the new schedule, the remaining matches would be held across six cities: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

Following the announcement of a ceasefire between the two countries, the BCCI began talks about restarting the tournament. After consulting with the government, the Board issued a modified schedule, with the league due to resume on Saturday in Bengaluru. However, famous Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar has made a request on the IPL's return.

Sunil Gavaskar's request

The cricket legend has called for a toned-down return of the IPL, unlike the pre-suspension atmosphere filled with loud music and dance. He believes a more subdued approach would honour the memory of the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack and show respect to their grieving families.

According toย Sports Today, he said, "I hope there's no music and no girls dancing when the IPL resumes. Some families have lost their near and dear ones. Let the games be played, let the crowd come in, but just cricket. No dance, no DJ."

About IPL 2025

The IPL 2025 season was suspended for a week due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22 that claimed 26 lives. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor,' targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The tournament will now resume on May 17 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a repeat of the IPL 2025 opener.

As for the match that was called off mid-way on May 8 โ€“ between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) โ€“ it has been rescheduled for May 24 in Jaipur. PBKS is the only team in playoff contention that will lose home advantage under the revised fixture.

While the tournament was initially set to conclude by May 31, the BCCI has now extended the season by three days, with the final scheduled for June 3.
